Severe weather events like cyclones can be frightening for young children, but they can learn to feel safe and prepared with the right support.
That’s why I’ve created a free short story, "The Big Blow and the Brave Town", to help children aged 5–8 understand cyclones in a positive and reassuring way.

Why This Story?
Children often hear about cyclones on the news or from adults around them, and this can lead to worry or fear. "The Big Blow and the Brave Town" is designed to:
✅Teach children what to expect in a cyclone in a gentle, age-appropriate way
✅Focus on safety and preparedness, rather than fear
✅Show the power of community, resilience, and teamwork
✅Help children feel reassured that storms pass, and they are not alone

How Can This Story Be Used in the Classroom?
📚 Read-Aloud & Discussion: Read the story together and discuss how the characters prepared and stayed safe.
💬 Encourage Storytelling: Let children share their experiences or create “brave town” stories.
🖍️ Creative Activities: Draw a “cyclone safety” poster or role-play a family preparing for a storm.
📖 Link to Weather Units: Use the story to support learning about extreme weather and natural disasters.
